Business Manager's Typical Day
Bill our Business Manager spends most (but not all) of the time in the office, making sure that Rocket Science is running efficiently and moving forward in the right direction.
A typical day could go something like this:
- 09.00 Arrive at the office, have a quick catch up with Heather (Office Manager), check e-mails and make various phone calls. Do weekly update on Sage, identifying suppliers that should be paid and check debtors list for reminders. Prepare weekly cash flow report.
- 10.00 Phone John (Managing Director) in London office for weekly update and discuss how to progress the Rocket Science 2010 business plan.
- 11.45 Phone call to accountants to discuss year end arrangements. Email pensions adviser about recent salary increases. Sign cheques written by Julia.
- 13.00 Sandwich at desk. Lots of good sandwich bars, cafes, restaurants at the West End of Edinburgh - just 2 mins from Princes Street by foot. Five minutes by bus to Jenners and Harvey Nicks.
- 14.00 Work on 5 year business model and cash flow forecasts in advance of next week's Management Team meeting.
- 15.30 Monthly 'supervision' session with line manager John. These sessions usually take about 2 hours (Rocket Science believes in investing time in its staff). Chat about how I'm getting on, identify any concerns or training needs etc.
- 17.15 Final batch of e-mails and complete timesheet.
- 17.30 Cycle home!
